About Brandon

I’m Brandon Carroll, and I am an IT professional with a passion for woodworking, building real projects in my Bonney Lake garage workshop. I combine my technical expertise with the craftsmanship I learned from my grandfather to create unique pieces and share my journey.
Why Bit & Grain?
Bit represents the digital side. It’s the technology, the systems thinking, the data-driven approach I bring from my IT career. Grain represents the wood, the craft, the hands-on making. I kinda liked bringing them together. A little bit of me now, and a little bit of the days in the workshop with my grandpa.
At Bit & Grain Technologies LLC, I explore how a simple shop system, not expensive tools or perfect memory, can help any woodworker:
- Spend Less: stop duplicate buys and make smarter substitutions
- Move Faster: find tools fast and avoid surprise store runs
- Cut Better: reduce downtime and improve results with simple failure notes
To be honest, I still like the expensive tools. Festool for sure! And that’s kinda why I thought of the “System.” If you’ve ever watched Sedge videos where he walks you through the “System” you’ll understand why. Basically, Festool makes very high quality tools, but what really draws me to them is that they are all built around a system. The system has all the attachments to help you get things done precisely and quickly.
The Shop System
I got tired of paying the “duplicate tax” (rebuying the same small stuff) and the “where-is-it tax” (wasting shop time searching). So I built a system, kinda like Festool, that serves as the attachment to the tool. And then I built an app (the tool) to make it easy for anyone to follow.
The Bit & Grain Shop System is the method. The Bit & Grain app is the tool that makes the method easy to follow.
Why Bit & Grain Studio?
In my minds eye, a studio produces different things. Dance Studios produce dancers. Art Studios produce art. I am a Studio that produces a system, a tool, projects I’ve created by hand and with the use of technology, and ideas that I share with others. Like the studios I am familiar with, I produce things.
